Temporary lifeline secured for adventure playgrounds - Conservatives vow to deliver permanent solutions for families.

Leicester Conservatives have worked hand-in-hand with the public to win a crucial lifeline for nine adventure playgrounds across the city.

Together, Leicester residents fought to protect these vital spaces, securing temporary funding from the Labour-run council.

However, this temporary fix only highlights Labour’s failure to provide lasting solutions. A Conservative-run City Council would ensure permanent funding and stability for our children and families.

Earlier this month, over 9,000 people signed a petition demanding the reinstatement of playground funding, which Conservative councillors proudly supported.

The message from Leicester residents is clear: these playgrounds are essential, and their future must be guaranteed. Labour’s decision to cut £1 million in funding has put our communities in jeopardy, leaving children and families uncertain about these crucial services.

Cllr Hemant Rae Bhatia, Leader of the Leicester Conservative Group, said:

“Standing with the people of Leicester, we’ve shown Labour that our playgrounds aren’t just numbers on a budget sheet. They are the heart of our communities. While this funding lifeline is a victory for now, Labour’s short-sightedness has failed our children. If the Conservatives take control of the council, we’ll ensure these playgrounds are permanently protected and fully supported.”

Cllr Charleigh Barnes, Conservative councillor for Abbey ward, where the Mowmacre playground is located, added:

“These playgrounds offer safe spaces for our young people and peace of mind for parents. Labour’s cuts have pushed staff into issuing redundancy notices, forcing families to question whether these spaces will still be around next year. The Conservatives will change that. We’ll provide the long-term security our community deserves.”

While Labour has issued a temporary six-month funding extension and rent-free leases, this is just a temporary stopgap.

Conservative councillors know that Leicester needs permanent, stable solutions, not short-term fixes. The playgrounds in Highfields and Woodgate have already issued redundancy notices. Our children deserve better than Labour’s mismanagement.

Leicester Conservatives are ready to lead the city to a brighter future, with real solutions and a commitment to putting families first.
